Álvarez et al v. Peru

From Climate Litigation

Peruvian youth filed an action against the Peruvian government alleging that failure to take action on climate change violated their human rights. The plaintiffs pointed specifically to the governments failure to halt deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.

The plaintiffs brought their claims on a numer of grounds, including the Peruvian constitution, the International Pact of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the American Convention on Human Rights.

They seek an order directing the government to reduce deforestation of the Amazon to zero by 2025.
